IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edda Jo
Smith
November 1, 1939 – March 6, 2022
Born 1 November 1939, Edda Jo Kinchen Smith was many things to many people. To her family, she was Nana, someone who always gave so much of herself, her sweet smiles and hugs, her chocolate chip cookies, her encouragement and empowerment.
To those who knew her outside her family, she was, among other things, a longtime employee at Henco, a student at UT Martin, and a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, which her great, great, great, great grandparents Alexander and Ester McCullar brought to the county after emigrating from Ireland. She spent most of her life on the farm that has been in the McCullar family for almost 200 years. She had a passion for art and literature, often painting, writing, and quilting.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Clay Smith, her parents, Jess and Johnnie Kinchen, and her grandparents, Edd and Mattie McCullar, with whom she will rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.
She leaves behind her daughter Deborah Jo Hill and granddaughter Sara Rachel Hill and her companion Jeremy Hoover, as well as her son William Clay Kinchen Smith, his wife Beth Gleaves Smith, and their children, granddaughter Bonnie Maureen Codalata and her husband Jared Alexander, and grandson Jess Kinchen Smith.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to
