March 15, 1941 – July 31, 2025
Mattie Mae Burdine came into this world at 4:00 a.m. on Orchard St. in Jackson, TN on Saturday, March 15, 1941. Born to Marvin Burdine, Sr. and Thelma Bernice Luton Burdine. A few months later, her parents moved to Morris Chapel, TN where she was raised with her older sister, Donnie, brother Marvin Burdine, Jr.(Hamm), and younger brother, Prentis Burdine. Whom she loved as her child. After graduating from high school she went to live with her beloved Aunt, Magnolia Broyles in Detroit, Michigan. She lived there for thirty-one years. While living in Detroit she was a member of New Light Baptist Church until she returned home and attended her home church, New Zeal M. B. Church in Morris Chapel, TN until she joined Wade Chapel M. B. Church in Ramer, TN. She was a devoted member until her homegoing on July 31, 2025.
Mattie loved basketball from a young age. Her favorite teammate was Bessie Anderson. Mattie's favorite NBA player was Lebron James. Her favorite singer was Lee Williams and her favorite movie was Ray. Mattie's favorite past time was going to church and enjoying everyone there. She also loved to watch sports on television. Mattie was a great woman that always spoke her mind.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Marvin Cecil Burdine; her mother, Thelma Bernice Luton Burdine; a sister, Donnie Fitzpatrick; and a brother, Marvin Levi Burdine, Jr.
Mattie leaves to mourn her passing: her brother, Prentis H.(Scheryl Burdine from Savannah, TN; four nephews, Lloyd Johnson, Jr., Prentis D. Burdine, Justin D. Burdine, and Cedrick L. Shelton; four close cousins, Beverly (Cedrick) Dent from Hermitage, TN, Doc, Skip, and Mike Hayes from Detroit, MI; and a host of friends and family. She willed be missed by all that knew her.
