Rufus Nelson Hopson, Sr or "Rudy" as he was affectionately known as was born August 21, 1955 to Bernice Goodlow Hopson and A. G. Hopson in Chicago, IL.  He was called home in the early morning January 23, 2024.

Rudy graduated from Central High, Class of 1973 where he was nicknamed "Quick/Quicksand". He attended University of Tennessee -Martin. became a plumbing contractor working independently and with Tall's plumbing service until he retired.  Rudy loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He enjoyed spending time and traveling  with his family and friends, especially enjoyed his time with his grands!

He leaves to cherish  his memory his children: Lakeisha Hopson, Tonice Brashers (Damean), John Hopson (Jasmean), Tiffanie Oakley, and Timothy Oakley, his surviving siblings: Naomi Miller, Judy Donelson, Vincent Hopson, Michael Hopson (Cathy), Debra Russell (Oscar), Cynthia Hopson, Anna Robinson, Maurice Hopson (Patty), Dineta Walker and his Great Aunt Mildred Rushing.  Also a host of grandchildren: Jaylen Hopson, Will Shelton (Kayla), Marcus Davis, Bryce Davis, Ashton Davis, Rylee Oakley Amani Casey Acasia Casey and Taiya Casey. One great grand, Charlea Hopson and a host of family and friends.

Proceeding him in death: Rufus. Hopson, Jr., Bernice and A.G. Hopson, Roger Hopson, Vicki Hopson, Lula McClellan, Quincy Yarbro, Bertha Hopson, and Paul Robinson.
