Lula Mae McClellan was called home on September 8, 2022 at the age of 93 years, 8 months, and 14 days. She was born on January 22, 1929 to the late Isaiah and Irene Goodlow.
She attended Dunbar School in Savannah, TN and later moved to Chicago, Illinois. Lula worked at Alden’s Mail Order Company, then worked in the Chicago school system as a teacher’s aide. Later, when she moved to Counce, TN she was employed by Halls in Corinth, MS. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping, going out to eat, working in her yard, and long phone calls with her beloved sisters.
Lula had an immense love for Christ and was baptized at a very young age. While in Chicago, she attended Emmanuel Baptist Church serving as an Usher, a Stewardess, and on the Mother Board. In Tennessee, she was a member of Graham Chapel CME Church where she was a Missionary and a Stewardess.
Lula leaves to cherish her memory; a sister, Mildred Irene Rushing of Chicago, IL; a step-daughter, Arlinda (Wade) Spencer of Chicago, IL; and a step-son James Charles (Janice) Bowden of Merrillville, IN.
Also, she leaves to cherish her memory, her nieces and nephews that she shared a special bond with and referred to as her children: Anna Robinson, Debra (Al) Russell, Dineta Walker, Vincent Hopson, Rufus Hopson, Michael Hopson, Roger (Cynthia) Hopson, Maurice (Patty) Hopson, Judi Donaldson, Sabrina Jones, Duran McDaniel, and Jowon (Sherron) Powell; her darling step-grandson Michael Bowden; 5 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. McClellan, her parents Isaiah and Irene Dixon Goodlow; brothers, James Goodlow and Isaac Nelson Goodlow; sister, Bernice E. Hopson; nieces Mildred Ann McDaniel, Vicki Hopson, and Irene Luckett; and nephews: Jimmy McDaniel and Wallace Nelson Goodlow.
