Remembering Viola Luttrell Stackens
Ms. Viola Stackens, age 95, of Purdy, Tennessee, departed this life on Friday, January 26th 2024, at Hardin Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born Saturday, May 5, 1928, to Amer and Irene Luttrell. Viola accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and continued to do God’s work at Purdy Weslyn Methodist Church. She served as Secretary of the church throughout her life and every 3rd Sunday in May conducted a Homecoming/Easter/Mother’s Day program that gave her so much joy. She remained a faithful servant until her health began to fail. She always started and ended her days with prayer and never lost faith in the power of God thru the struggles in her life. Viola was a woman of many talents, whether it was cooking, quilting, canning, or making her famous apple butter, she always kept herself busy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, Ella Mae Damron (J.D. Damron), William Luttrell (Hazel Luttrell) and George Luttrell (Louise Luttrell), her former husband Hershel Stackens, youngest son James Stackens, her son-in-law (Charles Irons), daughter-in-law (Charlotte Stackens), granddaughter (Christina Stackens- LaGrone), nephew (Amer Damron) and grandson (Kenny Walker).
